What's The difference in photographic print sizes? | Oklahoma City Portrait Photographer

Wall portrait display guide

When photographer's talk about wall portraits we're generally talking about any print bigger than an 8x10. However, when client's talk about wall portraits their usually talking about 8x10's. 8x10's are a very popular print size for client's to purchase. In fact, most client's think of an 8x10 as a large photograph. However, you can see from the Wall Display Guide above, that an 8x10 is actually a rather small photographic print size, and is best suited to sit on a desk or table. An 8x10 is going to look rather small hanging above the couch, but anything larger than 16x20 would be perfect, for this particular application.

Your wall portrait needs as a client, really depend on your use of the photograph. What area in your home would you like to hang a wall portrait? Different rooms, and what they already have in them, will be a big factor in what wall portrait size would work best for you. Maybe you'd like a photograph of your children to sit on Dads' desk at work, an 8x10 would be perfect, or even an 11x14 if Dads' desk is big. Maybe you're decorating your dining room and would love a statement piece for that one blank wall, then something larger, a gorgeous 24x36 Metal Print may be what you'd really love.

As the client, you're the one who is best equipped to know what you're really wanting from a portrait session. I encourage all my client's, from the first phone call or email, to talk to me about what they want to use their images for. The more I know what you want, the easier it is to deliver exactly that.
