Why don't I have a Newborn Studio? This is a question I get asked a lot at sessions, or usually it's more along the lines of why do I chose to travel to my client's homes for newborn sessions? The short answer is, I don't have a studio because of my clients.
What do I mean? Well, I look at my business as a service based business, I am providing my client's a service; newborn portraits. Photography is also a luxury item, it's non-essential, it's a choice for each and every client to have newborn portraits done or not. I feel like being in a service based business, that is also a luxury purchase, I want to provide my client's with the easiest experience from start to finish. From the initial inquiry all the way through to delivering the finished images, I want my client's to to be as stress-free as possible. I remember how difficult it was when my own son was a newborn, to get anywhere on time. Getting myself and him ready to get out the door and get anywhere was a struggle. By traveling to my client's, I'm enabling them to avoid that entire situation. They can relax in the comfort of their homes, while I photograph their new baby.
Would it be easier for me if I had a studio? Absolutely, packing all my stuff, unpacking it at my client's homes, packing it up again to leave, bringing it home, where I unpack it all again, would all be avoided if I had a studio. But the simple truth is that photographing your beautiful babies isn't about me, it's about you, and what's easiest for you.
